The Sky Speaks
Rooted in Truth • Soaring in Purpose

“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”
There’s something about watching a bird in flight that quiets my heart. The soft sweep of wings, the way they rise above the world without fear, the trust they have in the wind—it all feels like a sermon written across the sky. I’ve loved nature photography for several years now, and birds are easily my favorite subjects. From bluebirds and mockingbirds to osprey and eagles, there is something indescribably beautiful about the simple intricacies of their design. Through the lens, I see more than just a silhouette in the sky—I see each feather, each breath, each song. I see a reminder to be still, and to trust in God’s faithfulness.
In Matthew 10:29-31, Jesus reminds us that the Father watches over even the smallest of sparrows: " Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father’s will. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows." That kind of love is unfathomable. Every moment in our lives matters to Him. Every need is known. And if He watches over the tiniest creatures in the field, how much more will He watch over His children? When life feels uncertain, I look to the sky—to the birds—to God.
Isaiah 40:31, the basis and foundation for Rooted Eagle has always been a favorite of mine: “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” The birds of prey soaring in the sky always bring this to mind; I find that I see them now when I need to the most. This verse is not a promise to be instantly okay—life is not like that—God does not work like that. But is is a promise that one day, in patience and long-suffering, you shall renew your strength. The weariness and weakness shall fade, and you will soar on wings like eagles.
Over the years, my photography has become more than a hobby—it’s a practice in peace and joy—it's a moment alone with God to breathe. Each bird I see reminds me to stay rooted in truth and quiet patience, even as my heart longs to soar in joy and answered prayers. I’ve learned that peace doesn’t come from controlling every outcome, but from resting in God’s timing, whether I understand it or not—whether what happens matches my plan or not. Birds never worry about the next branch or the next gust of wind. They simply live in the moment they’ve been given, and I’m learning to do the same.
So whether I’m watching an eagle ride the wind or a sparrow peck at the ground, I hear the same whisper from Heaven: “Trust Me.” And in that trust, I find the stillness my soul craves. May we all learn from the birds—to rise when God lifts us, to rest when He calls us to wait, and to live each moment under the shelter of His peace.
